Literature Analysis #1- HARRY POTTER

*PLOT* Harry Potter is an orphan, but not really because he lives with his aunt and uncle who have a very spoiled son. They don't really care much for Harry and only took him in to live with them because Harry's parents died and his aunt is the only living relative Harry had since she was his moms only sister. Before Harrys parents died his aunt and uncle didn't really know much about him and this is because they didn't really approve of Harrys parents and the way they lived and who they really were. Up to Harry's 11th birthday he's lived a very, well terrible life I could say. He wasn't loved, had no friends, and was always alone. When Harry was going to be entering a new school year he found out who he truly was. Harry found out he was a wizard and not just any wizard, he was famous. He was so well known and this was because he survived. Not only were his parents murdered but their killer was also trying to kill Harry, he didn't die but he did get a scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt. Harry goes on to Wizard school in spite of what his aunt and uncle think. On his way there he meets 2 other first years, Ron and Hermione and they become friends. At his new school a lot of things happen such as a teacher not liking him and then that same teacher asking him to play Quidditch, Harry does and is pretty good at it. He also eventually gets his fathers invisibility cloak during Christmas. Harry and his friends are also very curious to find out what the 3 headed dogs are guarding then they figure out that it is a sorcerers stone which can give who ever owns it eternal life and unlimited wealth. When Harry and his friends are sent to the forest to see whos been killing the unicorns there is a man who tells them that Voldemort is looking for the stone as well so now Harry is determined to get the stone before Voldemort does. They go late at night and get passed the dogs and eventually find Quirrell who tells Harry that he must die. Then it's revealed the Voldemort's face was on the back of Quirrell's head. Then Voldemort tells Quirrell to kill Harry but Quirrell is burned when he touches Harry. Harry then passes out and when he wakes up he is in the hospital with Dumbledore and Dumbledore tell his that he saved him right on time from Dumbledore and he also tells Harry that him and Flamel decided to destroy the stone. At the end Harry heads down to the banquet for their school where the Slytherin house always wins but Dumbledore awards last minute points to Harry and his friends in the Gryffindor house and they win the house cup.
*Theme* I think the theme of the book was to find yourself. Harry Potter didn't really fit into anywhere before his 11th birthday and it was mainly because he was different but once he moved different schools he was better able to relate to more people just like him and throughout the book he learned much more about himself and his parents.
*Direct characterization* An example is when the author is describing Mrs. Dursley he says "Mrs. Dursely was thin and blonde and had nearly twice the usual amount of neck, which came in very useful as she spent so much of her time craning over garden fences, spying on the neighbors." (page 1)
*Static character* I think a static character is Dumbledore, since the start he has always been there for Harry and not turning on him or trying to hurt him in anyway possible and we see this also when he saves Harry from Quirrell at the end of the book.
